Nonostante la tragica morte di Ledger e le polemiche che ne sono conseguite, la Mattel ha proseguito nella produzione e distribuzione della bambola. L’action figure è stata già inserita in una strategia di marketing che accompagnerà l’uscita del film. Saranno disponibili due versioni del Joker, a partire da maggio, una in cui è armato di un laciarazzi e un'altra che lo raffigura con un coltello.
Il portavoce della famiglia Ledger ha dichiarato: “Heath era molto orgoglioso del lavoro svolto in questo film e la famiglia è consapevole e appoggia i piani per il lancio dell'uscita”.
Gli esami tossicologici relativi alle analisi effettuate all’inizio di febbraio sul corpo dell'attore hanno rivelato che Ledger è stato ucciso da un’accidentale overdose di farmaci regolarmente prescritti dal suo medico.
