Spesso sentiamo parlare di cifre dedicate alla cultura, tagli, sponsor e riconferme di budget.
Ma quanto costa un festival? Be’ dipende. Intanto il comune di Reggio Emilia ha pubblicato le cifre relative alle spese esterne del comune: sei milioni di euro spesi in consulenze da parte del Comune di Reggio Emilia nel 2008, secondo secondo quanto pubblicato sul sito del Ministero per la pubblica amministrazione e l’innovazione, nell'ambito dell'operazione trasparenza.
L’importo maggiore è andato alle opere di aggiornamente della tangenziale nord, mentre somme minori sono riferite a "opera di laboratorio" o a visite guidate alle collezioni naturalistiche.

Ma una parte cospicua del budet viene ogni anno destinato alle consulenze esterne per il festival Fotografia Europea: 153.634 nel 2008 a cui vanno aggiunti cinque mila euro per le attività di gestione preliminare per l’edizione del 2009. Proseguendo nel dettaglio delle spese figurano 34.720 euro per l’organizzazione, 44.033 euro per commissione di foto, 17.640 per gestione amministrativa, 9.800 tra promozione e attività tecnica. Eventi, allestimenti, concorsi, seminari e conferenze hanno avuto costi esterni pari a oltre 34mila euro, tra cui spicca il relatore Oliviero Toscani, pagato 3.573 euro per il suo intervento.
