Una nuova saga fantasy per Peter Jackson

Non è certo una novità che il nome Peter Jackson sia subito identificato come quello del regista più impegnato della storia. In attesa di vedere Amabili resti, l'autore de Il Signore degli Anelli è attualmente al lavoro sulla post-produzione di The Adventures of Tintin, il primo capitolo della trilogia tratta dai fumetti di Hergé che il regista ha realizzato in motion-capture 3D insieme a Steven Spielberg. Inoltre, tra i suoi progetti, c’è anche l’atteso adattamento de Lo Hobbit di J.R.R. Tolkien che Jackson produrrà, affidando la regia a Guillermo del Toro.
Adesso l’Hollywood Reporter annuncia che il regista è segretamente al lavoro nell’adattamento di Mortal Engines, una raccolta di romanzi fantasy scritta da Philip Reeve. Queste storie sono ambientate in un mondo post-apocalittico dove le città sono diventate enormi veicoli viventi e devono sopraffarsi tra loro per sopravvivere. Mortal Engines (lett: motori mortali) è il primo di una serie di quattro libri.
Attualmente anche la compagnia di effetti speciali Weta Workshops è al lavoro sui design del progetto. Un portavoce di Jackson non ha smentito, anche se ha dichiarato vagamente: “Qualsiasi tipo di commento deve essere rilasciato da Peter”. Pare che il regista si sia assicurato i diritti della serie già qualche anno fa.
