È libro fotografico dell’omonimo film. Un po’ backstage, un po’ diario fotografico, in un'edizione limitata a 1.500 copie, peccato non poterlo comprare
Considerando che la figura del fotografo gode di una buona reputazione sociale, quando veniamo a sapere che un grande artista, che sia un musicista o un attore, si diletta anche con l’arte delle istantanee non possiamo che apprezzarlo ancor di più.
Crazy Heart è il libro fotografico sul dietro le quinte del film omonimo, in cui il mitico Jeff Bridges interpreta con stile la figura di un musicista country. Gli ingredienti ci sono tutti per suscitare il nostro interesse e la visione del book non è da meno. Stampe in bianco in nero e formato panoramico, lavoro eseguito rigorosamente in pellicola e ottimamente stampato senza il minimo intervento di color correction costituiscono i tratti distintivi di fotografie vere, come è vera la storia narrata dal film. Crazy Heart, il libro fotografico, si presenta immediatamente per quello che è: un bel backstage caratterizzato da un’atmosfera (la stessa del set?) amichevole, on the road, alla vecchia maniera. Anche i commenti testuali vengono dalla mano di Jeff Bridges, e non è un semplice modo di dire dato che sono stampate con la grafia dello stesso attore. Nei contenuti queste didascalie somigliano molto a quello che direbbe un fotografo mentre ci racconta dal vivo gli scatti di una storia che ha vissuto in prima persona.
Immagini doppie della stessa situazione ripresa a brevi intervalli temporali si allargano sulle distese del Messico, introducendoci ai luoghi del film e al lavoro dello staff. Successivamente sfogliamo la carrellate di ritratti intervallati dagli autoscatti di Jeff Bridges assieme agli altri della troupe. Conosciamo così i luoghi e le persone tra cui il direttore della fotografia, Barry Markowitz mentre si confronta con i responsabili di produzione. L’aria appare rilassata ed è piacevole vedere una leggenda come Robert Duvall, “Bobby”, nel momento in cui assume una di quelle pose che ci ricordano tanto i personaggi che interpreta; accanto a lui la vera fotografa di scena, Lorey Sebastian.
Il fotografo di scena è una figura a se stante dei set cinematografici e questa immagine di Jeff Bridges ci fa soffermare sul senso del suo ruolo: si trova al di fuori del flusso della produzione, totalmente autosufficente e possiede un lasciapassare invisibile che gli permette di ficcare il naso ovunque, l’importante è non intralciare il lavoro altrui. Chissà come si sarà sentita Lorey vedendo con quale facilità l’attore le ha preso il ruolo.
Il libro Crazy Heart si discosta leggermente dal backstage più tradizionale, in quanto avvertiamo esplicitamente la presenza dell’autore-protagonista delle immagini, non solo perché si permette il lusso di farsi degli autoscatti “a braccio teso”, ma perché si percepisce la spensieratezza e la libertà espressiva svincolata da ogni tecnicismo.
Questo “diario di stage”, se così possiamo chiamarlo, ci ritrae altre figure di contorno come la parrucchiera e la truccatrice, “Le prime persone che vedevo la mattina...“. Bellissime anche le parole riservate a Kaaren F. Ochoa: “è stata la nostra assistente alla direzione, uno fra i mestieri più duri e importanti di un set. In pratica organizzano tutto ciò che va di volta in volta fatto. Kaaren lo ha fatto con precisione, humour e amore materno”.
Alcuni scatti sono belli sul serio, come quello a Paul Herman, di profilo e con lo sfondo nero, sembra totalmente separato dalla scena della troupe a lavoro sul fondo, inondata dalla luce.
L’ultima immagine è dedicata a Stephen Bruton, scomparso nel 2009 durante la lavorazione del film, al quale Bridges ha dedicato il libro e tutta la troupe la pellicola.
