Kolima domina di nuovo le pagine di Nicolai Lilin, ma forse non è in grado di aggiungere davvero qualcosa al già detto
Dopo l'entusiasmante esordio avvenuto con Educazione Siberiana era davvero alta, per tutti coloro che avevano apprezzato questa sorta di “romanzo criminale” postsovietico concepito direttamente in lingua italiana, l'attesa per la seconda prova dello scrittore Nicolai Lilin. E non si può certo dire che il giovane scrittore abbia indugiato nel soddisfare tale aspettativa, visto che a poco più di un anno è già bello e pronto questo Caduta Libera, il cui titolo riprende quello dell'ultimo capitolo del fortunato, precedente libro. Anzi, a parte alcuni irrilevanti cambiamenti, la prima delle sezioni del nuovo romanzo è proprio la stessa di quella finale di Educazione siberiana, e già questo basta a rendere sospettosa questa pubblicazione, a instillare nel lettore il dubbio che, sotto sotto, queste pagine siano più un'interessata operazione merceologica che non il frutto di una vera ispirazione.
E se pure non dovesse essere del tutto così, è molto difficile non rimanere delusi quando si giunge alla conclusione di Caduta libera.Protagonista di quest'ultimo lavoro di Lilin è ancora Kolima, l'alter ego dello scrittore di cui ci è stata narrata la turbolenta formazione delinquenziale nella città di Bender, dove risiedono le comunità di criminali che negli anni Trenta furono espulsi dalla Siberia; società, questa, la cui appartenenza richiede il rispetto severo di valori che si traducono in codici di comportamento a volte violentissimi. Materiale incandescente, cinematografico sicuramente, tanto che ovunque si va sbandierando che Gabriele Salvatores lo stia per trasporre in pellicola (notizia mai confermata), ma proprio per questo risulta particolarmente fastidioso e persino sterile il racconto dell'andata in guerra del personaggio che si vede coercitivamente arruolato nelle fila dell'esercito russo per combattere un nemico che, almeno nelle intenzioni di Lilin, deve avere un'identità il più possibile indeterminata per meglio suggerire l'insensatezza e la crudeltà non di uno specifico conflitto in atto, ma della guerra tout court.
Ma non basta confondere ceceni, afgani, arabi e il solito, generico gruppo terrorista, per far assumere una valenza universale a un messaggio, almeno se questo è veicolato da una prosa stilisticamente modellata sull'argomento e sostenuto da “onestà intellettuale” (accezione che suona male in bocca ai politici che ne fanno continuamente abuso, ma che ha una valenza tutt'altro che qualunquista). Così le gesta di Kolima, infallibile cecchino del reparto sabotatori detto dei “pipistrelli” per la capacità di agire ineffabilmente come un chiroptero nella notte. Si dà un bel da fare Lilin a descrivere con meticolosità le tecniche di combattimento, gli scontri a fuoco e i devastanti attacchi al fronte avverso, ma la scrittura non riesce mai a farsi tragica, e va a farsi benedire persino il phatos epico che sottende la buona letteratura di argomento bellico. Il tutto si riduce a una sterile coazione a ripetere di missioni tonitruanti che, queste sì, si sovrappongono e confondono l'una con l'altra e lanciano il romanzo in caduta libera verso il nulla.
