Miss Adèle e l'enigma del faraone, è una pellicola per ragazzi che diverte anche i grandi con intelligenza ed ironia, riscoprendo la semplicità di alcuni meccanismi di genere. Pieno di energia positiva e di brio, il nuovo film di Besson dà una sferzata inaspettata al suo cinema e realizza il suo sogno di dare vita sul grande schermo al fumetto di Tardi (in Italia il volume Le avventure di Miss Adèle Blan-Sec è edito da Rizzoli-Lizard) di cui è grande fan. Abbiamo incontrato il regista per saperne di più su questa sua eroina così sopra le righe e sul suo mondo.

Quanto ha inciso la presenza dei sui bimbi più piccoli sulla scelta di progetti come questo e la saga dei Minimei?
Non tantissimo. Il punto è che quando sei giovane ami dare scossoni alla società borghese che ti appare ingessata, poi quando vai avanti con gli anni non desideri più rompere tutto. Quindi non è tanto per i bambini, ma piuttosto perché è un ciclo. E poi in un’epoca così difficile come la nostra sono convinto che vadano fatti film leggeri. Non potrei mai girare adesso Léon e Nikita, occorreva cambiare registro. Ma appena la società migliora e l’economia riprende ricomincio a farli fuori tutti. Inoltre, ammetto che mi fa piacere poter vedere i miei film con i miei figli, è brutto dovergli dire sempre no, anche se credo che loro non abbiano ancora capito chi sono: pensano che sia un amico del signore che ha fatto il film.

Lei è una vera donna, non si preoccupa degli uomini che la circondano, e sì, è diversa dalle altre. In Léon non c’era una donna, ma una bambina, e in Nikita c’era una donna che si sentiva un uomo, Adèle è la mia prima vera donna.

Effettivamente è bella, femminile, e grazie ai costumi ha un look molto curato, ma non è troppo bella rispetto al fumetto?
No, ci sono dei disegni in cui è carina. Sono le tavole in cui l’ho vista bella che mi hanno ispirato quando l’ho portata sullo schermo.

Il finale è aperto; ci sarà un seguito?
Se alla base ci sarà un’ottima idea sì. La fine del film serve per lo più a dare un’idea del carattere di Adèle: potrebbe riposarsi, finalmente, ma finisce sulla nave sbagliata. Questo per dire che con lei le avventure non finiscono mai.

Effettivamente il film è costruito in maniera del tutto funzionale alla sua protagonista per esaltarne le caratteristiche e sottolineare quanto lei sia capace di fare davvero di tutto; come si costruisce una pellicola del genere?
I film funzionano come il corpo umano: ci sono le ossa, i muscoli, l’epidermide; si lavora per strati.

Questo immagino accada sempre, ma questo film si distingue dagli altri. Cosa c’è stato di diverso nella sua progettazione ed elaborazione?
Quello che importa innanzitutto è dare ad ogni fase il tempo necessario. In questo caso la prima fase è durata cinque anni in cui ho parlato con Tardi e mi sono fatto raccontare tutto del personaggio: cosa le piacesse, cosa non le piacesse, i suoi difetti, il mondo in cui vive e i cambiamenti che subisce. Una volta ascoltato tutto e avuto una visione completa ho potuto aggiungere gli altri elementi e passare a delineare la sceneggiatura e i costumi.

Questi cinque anni devono essere stati la parte più complicata del lavoro; è più difficile trasporre un libro o un fumetto?
Non c’è una gran differenza. Indipendentemente dalla fonte il lavoro deve portare allo script. Una volta arrivati allo script non si fa più riferimento alla fonte, e quindi il punto di partenza non è più importante.

La cover di Le avventure straordinarie di Adèle Blan-Sec di Tardi, edito da Rizzoli LizardAdèle e gli altri protagonisti nel film adottano molti travestimenti, un po’ come il suo cinema. Cos’è per lei il suo cinema? Un modo per sfuggire da una realtà che l’annoia?
Per prima cosa vorrei specificare che quando Tardi ha creato i suoi personaggi si è ispirato a delle foto dell’epoca che ho voluto vedere. I personaggi del film somigliano a quelle foto, hanno facce diverse rispetto a quelle che siamo abituati a vedere oggi perché fanno riferimento alle abitudini di allora, ci possono sembrare esagerate ma in realtà non lo sono rispetto a quell’epoca. Per quanto riguarda il cinema, per me è l’opposto della politica: si sa che è finzione, ma io posso lo stesso raccontare la verità a partire da una storia che tutti sanno essere finta. La politica, invece, è l’esatto contrario: pretende di dire la verità ma poi è tutto cinema. Per me è importante passare attraverso la finzione, altrimenti girerei documentari e parlerei del mio vicino di casa.

Quindi i personaggi messi in scena in Miss Adèle , pur sembrandolo, non sono caricaturali?
Non lo sono affatto. Ai fini del film ho realizzato un cortometraggio di dodici minuti basato su filmati dei primi del Novecento, prima di iniziare a girare lo facevo vedere per mostrare che c’erano delle differenze rispetto ad oggi anche nel camminare: la gente usciva di casa partendo da un punto A senza cercare di arrivare a B nel più rapido dei modi come faremmo noi. È stata l’ultima epoca davvero spensierata e leggera, per questo ho detto a tutti i miei attori di trovare un ritmo che rendesse quest’atmosfera particolare in cui persino le voci alla radio avevano un tono più enfatico, più drammatico. Ho voluto che ogni singola comparsa sul set sapesse perfettamente il proprio mestiere e perché si trovasse a passare di lì in quel momento. Volevo che tutti partecipassero, giravo per il set dicendo: “Tu che lavoro fai? Chi sei? Se non sai rispondere ti metto in fondo e poi non ti si vede!”

Nell’ultima parte di film la sorella di Adèle sospesa tra la vita e la morte, quasi in coma vegetativo, diventa sempre più centrale; c’era l’intenzione di far riflettere sul dibattito scientifico e teologico?
L’elemento del salvataggio della sorella è stato introdotto per il film, per rendere omaggio alle donne in quanto uniche in grado di donare la vita e, quindi, anche in grado di difenderla ad ogni costo. Adèle farebbe qualunque cosa per sua sorella, perché è una donna e non abbandona mai la vita neanche quando sembra che non ci siano più speranze. È una situazione che ho inventato io appositamente per il film e che mi è stata suggerita da un’esperienza personale per cui mi sono trovato a dover firmare per un membro della mia famiglia che, invece, è riuscito a scappare dall’ospedale e a continuare a vivere. Noi non sappiamo assolutamente niente del confine tra la vita e la morte, magari dopo dieci anni bastano un odore o una parola per svegliarsi e continuare a vivere.

Dopo i titoli di coda c’è ancora una sequenza, perché anche lei ha sposato questa moda?
La storia è finita, ma quella sequenza è una sorta di bonus fedeltà per chi è rimasto fino alla fine.
